Outreach for Schools

Connecting schools with world-class research, expertise, and resources

At the Centre for CPD and Outreach, we believe in the power of collaboration to create meaningful educational experiences. Our Outreach for Schools initiative is designed to connect schools with Durham University’s academic expertise, resources, and networks to enhance learning opportunities for students and teachers alike.

We work alongside key university partners—including faculty experts, researchers, student ambassadors, and engagement teams—to provide tailored outreach programmes that support curriculum enrichment, professional development, and student aspiration-raising. Whether through interactive workshops, school visits, or long-term partnerships, we aim to bridge the gap between schools and cutting-edge educational research.

Our Outreach Activities Include:

  • Curriculum-Linked Workshops: Interactive sessions designed to enhance learning in STEM, humanities, and social sciences, led by Durham University academics and students.
  • Teacher CPD and Training: Research-informed professional development opportunities to support teachers in embedding innovative practices in the classroom.
  • School-University Partnerships: Long-term collaborations with schools to co-develop projects that align with educational priorities and research-led teaching.
  • Widening Participation Programmes: Supporting schools in engaging students from underrepresented backgrounds, helping to raise aspirations and access to higher education.
  • Bespoke School Visits to Durham University: Giving students and teachers the opportunity to experience university life through campus tours, taster sessions, and research engagement.
